What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet, hands and ears that correspond with every part, gland and organ of the body. Through stimulation and pressure on these reflexes, reflexology relieves tension, improves circulation and helps the body to normalize itself. There are more then 7,200 nerve endings in each of the feet which interconnect through the spinal cord and brain with all areas of the body. Reflexology is very effective in reducing stress by putting the client into a state known as the "parasympathetic" mode (rest and repair). The feet are under constant pressure. Muscles and nerves in the feet can become blocked from tension and stress through friction and repeated use. A reflexology session seems to break up deposits of toxic by-products. It is an alternative non-invasive therapy for balance and wellness for the body.
What are the Benefits?
There are four main benefits from reflexology:
1. Relaxation with the the removal of stress.
2. Enhanced circulation
3. Assists the body to normalize metabolism naturally.
4. Compliments all other healing therapies.
Reflexology can help the body with conditions such as:
PMS, Headaches Allergies
Back pain, Heartburn Asthma
Circulation problems Constipation Muscle tension
Plantar fasciitis Arthritis Sinusitis/Respiratory
Infertility Insomnia Stress
Reflexology can be performed on everyone. The very young (newborn), very elderly, very ill, the pregnant, presurgery, post-surgery, heart patients and diabetics. The sessions may be shorter and/or may be done more frequently with a lighter touch. It can be used for a general "tune-up" or for an unhealthy body. Reflexology can benefit everybody.
What happens during a treatment?
Before the first treatment a full consultation and medical history will be taken, to determine your present and past health and lifestyle. On the side is a picture of "The Sole Whisperer's" treatment room.
During the treatment some relaxing background music will be playing. The first part of a session involves relaxation techniques that prepare the feet for the Reflexology treatment, the relaxation techniques help to relax the client and allow the client to get use to the Reflexologists touch. The Reflexologist will then use her/his hands to apply a gentle/therapeutic pressure to the various specific reflex points on the feet to initiate more specific responses in the body. For each client the application and effect of the therapy is unique.
How long does a treatment last?
The first treatment may take just over an hour due to the health history being reviewed. After the first session, the treatments will then take about 45-60 mins. A small amount of time to relax and recover from your treatment may be given.
How will I feel after a treatment?
Reflexology stimulates the body's own healing mechanism and is deeply relaxing. After one or two treatments, your body may respond in a very positive way. Reflexology can be performed weekly, bi-weekly and monthly. Either way, listen to your body as you will see it will start to crave the attention.
Most people experience a feeling of deep relaxation and a sense of well being following a treatment.
